COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Steel Ice Center of Bethlehem is expanding with a 34,000-square-foot addition to add a third 200-by-85-foot ice rink, a fitness center, and a stretch-and-recovery lab at 320 1st St. Construction will begin later this year and finish in 2027.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Local vigils held Friday night on Hamilton Street in Allentown and at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem brought residents together to remember Renee Good, who was killed in Minnesota. Organizers said the gatherings offered comfort+ solidarity amid lingering fears.  WFMZ
  • 6-year-old Mira, the first Adopt Lehigh Valley Kid of 2026, is enjoying time at Star Park inside the Lehigh Valley Mall. A Salvation Army case worker said Mira is easy going with a bright smile and hopes to be matched with a loving family for simple moments.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Hotel Bethlehem is hosting a wedding showcase on Sunday, Jan. 18, where couples can view stations on bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and the wedding itself. Over 40 local vendors will share ideas (from cakes to flowers) and reservations are required.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Luke's College of Health Sciences, part of St. Luke's University Health Network, is accepting applications for its inaugural class that begins in May at the Fountain Hill campus. The school offers associate degrees in radiography and respiratory care and an online BSN for licensed nurses.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Aging announced that older adults can switch Medicare Advantage plans or enroll in original Medicare until March 31; PA MEDI counselors are available through local Agencies on Aging to provide free+unbiased help.  WFMZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new flu variant, Subclade K, emerged after this season’s vaccines were made, and hospital visits in Eastern Pennsylvania are rising. Local health officials advise talking to a doctor if you show flu symptoms (such as fever, cough, or body aches) to start treatment early.  WLVR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fans are gearing up for Sunday's NFC Wild Card match-up at Lincoln Financial Field – locals are stocking up on team gear from Rally House and organizing watch parties with kick-off at 4:30 p.m.  WFMZ
