BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant and its pilot union will resume contract talks today and tomorrow with mediation from the National Mediation Board, aiming to update an agreement first approved in 2016 and expired in 2021. The discussions will focus on addressing pay gaps with proposed wage increases and better benefits.  WFMZ
  • Cozy Cafe & Restaurant, a family-run modern European eatery, will hold a soft opening Saturday, Jan. 17 at 216 E. Broad St. in Bethlehem; the venue (renovated from previous restaurants) will serve gluten-free and traditional specialties with a grand opening planned for March.  WFMZ
  • Jose Peguero and Suaha Sharif started Heartline Transport LLC to offer non-emergency rides for appointments and family events in Lehigh and Northampton counties. The couple has run the service from Bethlehem for about two years.  WFMZ
  • Air Products will broadcast its fiscal 2026 first quarter earnings teleconference on Friday, Jan. 30 at 8:00 a.m. ET via telephone (646-769-9200, passcode 2207146) and online for the public and media.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents voiced concerns about changes to Medicaid and SNAP requirements at a Lehigh County meeting Wednesday, fearing lost benefits would worsen their living conditions. County officials urged residents to contact state representatives (for further assistance) to restore support.  WFMZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A 15-year-old cancer survivor in Lehigh Valley helped two donors support Wigs for Kids by donating hair and cutting patient care coordinator Kristina Bubrow’s hair. Robert Hockenbury said his donation honors loved ones lost to cancer while marking his third contribution to the cause.  WFMZ
  • The Lehigh County Coroner's Office is adding post-mortem nasal swab tests for influenza, COVID-19 & RSV when home deaths show respiratory symptoms or family reports. The testing supports public health efforts without delaying funeral arrangements.  WFMZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Allentown Planning Commission granted preliminary final approval for a new 15,100 sqft adult day care facility on Lehigh St, as Senior LIFE (Bethlehem-based) plans to demolish an old bank building and add parking for 55 vehicles.  WLVR

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Bethlehem's Steel Ice Center, senior players meet weekly for Lunchtime Skate to play hockey and stay active. Dick Johnson (80) and teammate Mario Sgroi (77) enjoy the game and the social time that comes with each session.  WFMZ
