ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews are on site at mile marker 8.7 on Route 33 South to address a sinkhole that has reduced the roadway to one lane — they are excavating around the hole and will fill it if needed. Drivers should expect delays as the work continues. WFMZ
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Today, Lehigh Valley Public Media announced layoffs affecting 16 staff members and nearly half its workforce as it battles financial losses. After the cuts, the nonprofit will operate with 20 to 25 employees + end its Book Nook literacy program. The Brown and White
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Liberty’s boys swim team beat Southern Lehigh 110-73 at Liberty on Jan. 8. Hurricane freshman Jonah Korpics (winner in the 500 free and 100 backstroke) led his team as the relay squad posted strong times. Bethlehem Press
- ➤ Freedom’s girls basketball team won three games last week by defeating Pocono Mountain West, Northampton and Whitehall; they beat the Panthers 56-29 on Jan. 7 at Freedom (coach Deanna Radio praised the team’s intense and unselfish play). Bethlehem Press
- ➤ Liberty and Freedom High teams competed at the Virginia Duals this past weekend, with Liberty winning games by 52-18, 72-6 and 45-17 while Freedom, after a 45-26 start, earned three straight wins including a 59-24 victory. Bethlehem Press
