  • A local Valentine's Day fundraiser supports Bethlehem Mounted Police horses by letting participants pick a favorite horse to send a secret Valentine card as donations help cover horse care; the contest closes Feb. 6 and mailed cards go out Feb. 7 + event details are available online.  WFMZ
  • Today, 10-year-old Louis Fitzko—a Make-A-Wish recipient (with SMA) from Bethlehem—is flying out of Philadelphia to Santa Clara with his family for the Super Bowl; the NFL, Fanatics, and Make-A-Wish have arranged his week-long trip that includes a personalized replica Super Bowl ring.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Everclear, a 90s rock band, will perform at Musikfest Café this summer on Thursday, June 18 at 8 p.m. Ticket pre-sales for ArtsQuest members began on Tuesday, Feb. 3 and will continue, with regular tickets on sale Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.  WFMZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Governor Josh Shapiro highlighted Eli Lilly's $3.5B investment in the Lehigh Valley during his Feb. 3 budget address as evidence of a growing state economy; the project in Upper Macungie Township will create 850 permanent and 2,000 construction jobs while proposed PA EDGE tax credit changes aim to attract more investments.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lehigh University Dance Team is preparing to perform at upcoming basketball games and Dance Fest this semester, led by captains (Brooke Goldin and Natalie Werbel) after their Excellence in Entertainment Programming Award win in 2025. The competitive, audition-only group builds strong community bonds through regular practice and team traditions on campus.  The Brown and White
  • Dr. Chenshu Liu at Lehigh received a $430,000 NIH grant on Aug. 1 to fund a five-year research project on healthy egg cell development using roundworms — his lab will use the award to support both research and student training.  The Brown and White
  • Professor Mallory Kimmel built a creative 3D lab class at Lehigh's Mountaintop campus, where students work on projects to turn imaginative ideas into real designs. Her classes foster collaboration and community (students are even encouraged to sing instead of using headphones) and prepare future design professionals.  The Brown and White
  • Eli Lilly's recent investment spurred Lehigh Carbon Community College to receive $5 million for a biotechnology lab + new curriculum designed to train future company workers, with introductory classes starting this fall and the lab set to be ready before Lilly's opening.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania House Labor and Industry Committee voted 14-12 on Tuesday, Feb. 3 to advance a bill that would raise the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour for most workers — the bill now awaits consideration by the full chamber.  WFMZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local mental health organizations NAMI Lehigh Valley and Pinebrook Family Answers are connecting residents with counseling services + support groups to prevent crises, and executive director Maggie Murphy said they are offering timely interventions despite long waitlists.  The Brown and White

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The GLVR report shows that in 2025, Lehigh and Northampton counties saw mixed changes—Northwestern Lehigh's median price jumped 20.7% while Southern Lehigh prices dropped 9%—and single-family homes increased in value. Experts say mortgage rates will remain near 6% in 2026 as the market stabilizes with modest gains.  WFMZ

  • Lehigh women’s lacrosse added two assistant coaches in December as head coach Steph Lazo finalized her staff ahead of the spring season. The team will open on Feb. 6 against St. Joseph’s University — a promising start as the squad prepares for Patriot League play.  The Brown and White
