COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Special Olympics Pennsylvania has moved the annual Lehigh Valley Polar Plunge from Scott Park to Coca-Cola Park on Saturday, Feb. 21 because the Delaware River is frozen, with registration opening at 10 a.m. (a Super Plunge is planned on Friday, Feb. 20 to support athlete training).  WFMZ
  • Repairs on historic Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem are about 50% complete following a water main break over two years ago, with the Alvin Butz Company leading work that began in 2025. The church, temporarily housed (across the street), is scheduled to reopen by year’s end.  WFMZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A sprinkler pipe burst in the Clayton University Center around 9:00 p.m. last night (near the loading dock) and Lehigh University Police with Bethlehem Fire Department responded by placing a continuous fire watch while repairs to the fire system began. The building remains operational.  The Brown and White
  • A water main break is creating a sinkhole on the 3000 block of Edinburgh Road off Cedar Crest Boulevard in South Whitehall Township today — crews with heavy equipment arrived quickly and began repair work as the road remains closed until further notice.  WFMZ
  • Students evacuated the Williams building in Lower Cents around 5:33 p.m. yesterday after a water pipe burst; LUPD officers were on scene and could not comment until after their shift change.  The Brown and White

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students led a Black History Month kickoff at the Clayton University Center on Thursday. The event featured a stand-up set by Alex Quox (a local comedian) and a high school dance, organized by student groups to celebrate Black culture on campus.  The Brown and White
  • Grupo Niche will headline Musikfest preview night on July 30 at Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza. Ticket access begins today for ArtsQuest members and on Friday, Feb. 13 for the general public + secure your spot to enjoy a vibrant salsa experience.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Lehigh County Authority said more water main breaks are expected this week as temperatures rise — a recent break on Parkway Boulevard and Ott Street took six hours to repair. Workers responded to over 100 residential service calls, and residents are advised to insulate basement pipes.  WFMZ
