ECONOMY NEWS

  • ABE will begin constructing a five-level parking structure in fall to add 1,000 spaces with a climate-controlled walkway, partly funded by a $2 million grant from Congressman Ryan Mackenzie; the project responds to record passenger growth and precedes further upgrades at the airport.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students Max Russo and Elliot Padrick launched the Sustainable Engineering Club, which now has over 40 members designing an air quality monitor, window planter and movement desk. The club meets Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. in Rauch Business Center Room 485 and recently visited Hershey to study manufacturing processes.  The Brown and White

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Senior geologist Mike Morykin said our region's sinkholes are linked to water, changing weather, and development. He explained that repairs on Summit Avenue may take one to two weeks after a water main leak and that ground radar mapping will guide soil stabilization methods.  WFMZ

  • With winter in full swing, doctors warn that shoveling wet, heavy snow can strain your heart. Dr. Benjamin Sanchez Jr. at Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute advises residents to watch for chest pain, shortness of breath, or cold sweats and call 911 if symptoms appear.  Bethlehem Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bethlehem homeowners share in Pennsylvania’s rising property tax burden as bills continue to climb despite slower home prices. A recent analysis shows the state’s effective tax rate stands at 1.137% (with median taxes near $3,214), ranking 13th highest across the nation.  WFMZ
  • Roofing expert Justin Bernard of Bernard & Sons Roofing in Saylorsburg explains that homeowners should check for curling shingles, granule loss, and water stains due to winter wear - signs that may mean it is time for roof repair or replacement in our region.  WFMZ

  • Senior thrower Grace Aggen broke the school shot put record on Jan. 17 at the University of Pennsylvania event after overcoming an ACL injury two years ago, throwing 14.77 m to beat the previous record and inspiring her teammates with her determination.  The Brown and White
  • Coca-Cola Park is competing in a USA Today poll to be named the best minor league ballpark — a contest that highlights our local baseball spirit.  WFMZ
