COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The United Way of Berks County is hosting Read Across America Week to inspire local children with fun reading events that promote literacy. The initiative is part of a broader community effort to foster a lasting love for books.  WFMZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Former Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan is defending a plan to build a data center that will feature a self-powered facility to cut water use on a 450-acre site in Lower Mt. Bethel Township (Northampton County). Details will be shared at an April 6 town hall meeting.  WFMZ
  • Shift4 completed its acquisition of Worldline's North American assets — Bambora Inc., Bambora Holding Corp., Bambora Corp., and Worldline SMB US, Inc. — which expands its payment processing platform serving over 140,000 merchants in the region. The move follows similar steps taken last year with Global Blue and sets the stage for future growth.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Moravian Academy has chosen four students from 18 applicants for a summer climate-change summit organized by the Villars Institute (one of only five U.S. schools in the program). They will travel to Switzerland in June.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • The Pennsylvania Senate passed a bill to ban phone use in K-12 schools from the first bell to the last if approved by the House; effective in the 2027 to 2028 school year, it permits exceptions (for medical needs, translation, and field trips) and lets local districts set storage rules.  The Brown and White
  • President Joseph Helble hosted a community conversation Monday morning at the Health, Science and Technology building to address a pause in Greek life and campus concerns. He previewed admissions and plans to add 370 beds by 2028 (announcement on a new dorm gift is coming later this month).  The Brown and White

  • Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg delivered a keynote at Lehigh University on Tuesday night (at the Zoellner Arts Center), urging guests to build coalitions and find common ground amid domestic and global challenges.  Lehigh Valley News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior midfielder Peter Theodoropoulos played multiple roles for Lehigh and scored the game-winning goal in a 14 to 13 win over Michigan on Feb. 14 — showcasing his versatility. The team will host Boston University on March 7 in Bethlehem.  The Brown and White
