- ➤ Friday night, Emmaus High School hosted Shave for the Brave where students, families & local supporters raised funds for childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick's Foundation, sharing personal stories that underscored the community's commitment to fighting cancer. WFMZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ ArtsQuest Foundation is accepting nominations for the 10th Anniversary Linny Awards, open until Apr. 3 — nominators need only submit a nominee's name and reason. The awards ceremony will honor local arts leaders on Oct. 15 at Musikfest Café, ArtsQuest Center, and SteelStacks in Bethlehem, with winners announced May 1. Bethlehem Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nazareth High School junior Adhitiya Adavan earned national honors for his documentary (Lines of Power) when his film received an honorable mention in the C-SPAN StudentCam contest. He was one of 87 students recognized from 1,800 entries after he learned of his award during a test. WFMZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Early this morning, birdwatchers witnessed thousands of snow geese taking flight at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area as the sun rose, with the birds circling briefly before heading to nearby fields for grain. The annual display has drawn large crowds to the reservoir over the years. WFMZ
- ➤ On Friday, the PA DEP said water runoff from 49 landfills poses no radiation risk because no sample exceeded industrial standards even though some raw leachate had radium levels above drinking limits (raw leachate is never consumed). The agency will add four quarters of testing to expand the data set. WFMZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ PPL submitted a new settlement showing smaller rate increases than originally proposed if approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, with typical residential bills rising by about $7.42 (instead of $13) and the new rates set to begin July 1. WFMZ
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A new report from Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors shows that homes in Lehigh and Northampton counties now have a one-month supply—well below the healthy five- to six-month level—while closed sales dropped 16% and prices fell as buyers face fewer choices in the tight market. WFMZ

- ➤ On Friday at the PIAA championship in Hershey, junior Elijah Heimbach lost 9-5 to Andrew Alexander in the second round of consolation matches after winning his opening bout 11-3; Liberty head coach Brandon Hall noted Heimbach’s growth this season offers promise for a future podium finish. - ➤ On March 9, Freedom’s boys tennis team opened its season with a 6-0 win over East Stroudsburg North at Freedom, as new head coach Zach Lebby voiced high hopes while planning to start Oscar Avila at No. 1 singles, Jonah Rodburg at No. 2, and Logan Ritter at No. 3. Bethlehem Press
- ➤ Dieruff High’s Jayla Rosario scored her 1000th point during a game and joined only eight lady Huskies to reach this milestone (the first since Lindsay Myers in 2001) as her name now hangs on the school’s banner to inspire local players. WFMZ
- ➤ Liberty’s boys tennis team scrimmished on March 7 to prepare for the season, testing new lineups before the uncertain opener this week. Coach Chris Conrad said the defending district champions will challenge Parkland, Emmaus and Easton with a mix of players. Bethlehem Press
- ➤ Freedom senior Dan Schiffert earned a medal and finished fifth at the PIAA wrestling championships on the weekend at the Giant Center in Hershey. He lost in the quarterfinals to Nolan Reinert before winning in consolation rounds when Easton’s Kurtis Crossman medically forfeited the final match (capping off his high school wrestling career).
