COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two downtown Bethlehem restaurants will host an Easter egg hunt for local children to benefit a nonprofit organization, offering families a fun opportunity to engage. Organizers say additional details will be shared soon.  WFMZ
  • On Thursday, March 19, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority hosted a Fill the Bus donation drive at Lehigh Valley International Airport to collect items such as toilet paper, paper towels, and non-perishable food — help for TSA workers serving passengers despite the ongoing shutdown.  WFMZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • At the Lehigh Valley Auto Show today, BEZ introduced a new micro-electric car with a design that lets one wheel drive while the others recharge the battery (named for the manufacturer’s granddaughters). The compact car was made to help move around resorts, communities, and universities.  WFMZ
  • Ben Franklin Technology Partners secured a $4.8 million federal grant on Feb. 10 to expand lab space by 50% at TechVentures on Lehigh's Mountaintop campus, and the 18-month expansion will support local startups+commercial growth.  The Brown and White

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Office of Sustainability is reviewing student feedback to rebuild the Eco-Rep Leadership Program that paused last spring when its previous director left. The program will return in the academic year (2026 to 2027) to train students on sustainable practices on campus.  The Brown and White
  • Lehigh's Black Student Union said a racist image on Yik Yak exposed ongoing campus issues and led student leaders to hold a town hall meeting on March 18 to discuss clear anti-racism policies and expanded training. The union calls for accountability in Greek life and improved safety measures.  The Brown and White

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Northampton County will review a tax increment financing plan on April 16 to help Skyline Investment Group redevelop the former Dixie Cup factory in Wilson Borough into 405 apartments with a public plaza and new sidewalks + a vote is scheduled for May 7.  WFMZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freedom senior Hayden Taylor won gold at the PIAA Class 3A state diving championships on March 11 at Bucknell University. Taylor scored 508.80 points over 11 dives to beat 23 competitors.  Bethlehem Press
  • Liberty lost its PIAA Class 6A tournament game last week when Plymouth Whitemarsh surged after an early 17-5 lead, ending the season at 18-11. Mani Sajid scored 16 points in the loss.  Bethlehem Press
  • Officials announced that Sodexo will sponsor the Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4 at Lehigh Country Club — featuring 78 PGA TOUR Champions players. Tournament proceeds will support local philanthropic organizations — with all rounds airing on GOLF Channel.  WFMZ
  • Freedom’s boys tennis team won its second meet with a 4-2 victory over Whitehall on March 13, led by Oscar Avila’s strong play at No. 1 singles.  Bethlehem Press
  • Bethlehem Catholic’s girls basketball team advanced in the PIAA Class 5A tournament after defeating Villa Maria (Malvern) 51-42 on March 11 at Norristown High School. Coach Arnold Alleyne praised key defensive plays and timely substitutions that helped secure the win.  Bethlehem Press
