COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Stabler Arena in Bethlehem is busy as visitors flock to the opening day of the Lehigh Valley Auto Show. Hundreds of cars from more than a dozen manufacturers are on display and the event will run through Sunday.  WFMZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • More than 800 local leaders and community members gathered on March 18 at SteelStacks at ArtsQuest in Bethlehem to mark LVEDC’s 30th anniversary and highlight the region's strong economic growth—officials noted that expanding manufacturing and diverse investments are key to the community’s success.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lehigh University restarted the Prison Project, a service-learning program where students tutor inmates at Northampton County Prison to earn GEDs. Professor Lloyd Steffen — who created the program — said tutors meet once a week in one-on-one sessions that follow strict security guidelines.  The Brown and White

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bethlehem named its first sustainability manager, Sarah DeGrendel, in December to help put the Climate Action Plan into action—she will track progress and work with local partners to protect the city. She is making changes like using eco-friendly food options and planting trees to fight climate change.  The Brown and White
  • On Tuesday, Bethlehem City Council voted to raise the incoming council president's annual salary from $7,600 to $11,400 and council members' pay from $7,100 to $10,650. Four of the seven new council members will receive the increase immediately in 2026 while raises for the next mayor and city controller were rejected.  Lehigh Valley News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bethlehem Township’s zoning board approved Orion Real Estate Development’s plan for a 120-unit apartment project on Easton Avenue near Farmersville Road that lets the developer add an extra story and 24 more units to help manage stormwater — the project will replace a junkyard and vacant commercial space and may take between 24 and 30 months to complete.  Lehigh Valley News

  • Douglas Strange retired this week after a 32-year career at Lehigh Athletics—he built the fitness center and led programs that taught students and staff about fitness. He expanded athletic training and said he hopes a larger recreation center will be built to serve the community.  The Brown and White
  • Richard Checo, a junior defenseman at Lehigh, was named to the 2025 Tewaaraton Award watch list for record-setting play—he credits his teammates and coach for his success and remains focused on leading his team to another Patriot League Championship.  The Brown and White
