BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local entrepreneurs Rick Graessel and Jim Wheeler opened The Green House Tearoom on Cherokee Street on June 4, converting a 121-year-old mansion into a unique tea experience with three dining areas. Their goal is to expand the business—focusing on quality service and innovative design to delight guests.  The Brown and White
  • Local Boeing senior engineering manager Alyssa Dilsaver Helwig, a Nazareth native, led 200 engineers in building the rocket that launched the four-person Artemis II crew into orbit on Thursday. She later visited Disney World and now lives in New Orleans while continuing her pursuit of space exploration.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra will perform Hebrew Connections on April 12 at 3 p.m. at Congregation Bnai Shalom in Easton, showcasing Jewish musical traditions. The Bel Canto Youth Chorus presents Spring Concert: An American Patchwork on April 19 at 4 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.  Bethlehem Press
  • Hayley Frerichs, a lifelong storyteller, fuels creativity at Lehigh's College of Arts and Sciences and writes feature content for The Cardinal. Her journey from childhood diaries to authoring novels shows how her creative passion shapes her evolving career.  The Brown and White
  • The Industrial Archives and Library in Bethlehem plans to move into its new 62-acre property on Santee Mill Road next year. The site, which once belonged to Archibald Johnston, will house seven historic buildings plus an eighth under construction to store extensive industrial records.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lehigh’s Student Senate elected Drew Smith ('27) as its new president as it plans to restructure to better serve student needs. The Senate is considering dissolving current committees and streamlining leadership to improve club funding, campus services, and overall student representation.  The Brown and White
  • Forest Park will open its Blue Trail within the next month at Sayre Park Village and South Mountain Park to connect Lehigh's Asa Packer, Goodman and Mountaintop campuses for research, recreation and community use; mountain biking will be allowed on most trails with safety restrictions for safety.  The Brown and White

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Northampton County Council approved a $30,000 grant from its community planning fund to help All Aboard Lehigh Valley study the feasibility of restarting passenger rail service connecting Allentown and NYC. It also approved $30,000 grants to support Bethlehem and Easton Ambassadors who maintain welcoming public spaces.  WFMZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lehigh’s women’s basketball team fought through injuries and lineup changes to earn its first at-large Women’s National Invitational bid after finishing a 17-15 season and posting an 11-7 conference record. On March 19, the team lost 72-62 to Monmouth — a game that highlighted its hard-fought effort.  The Brown and White
  • Men’s basketball captain Nasir Whitlock said on Instagram Thursday morning that he will enter the transfer portal after a championship season in Bethlehem (a special place in his heart). The NCAA portal will open on April 7 and close on April 21.  The Brown and White
  • Sophomore women’s wrestler Audrey Jimenez won USA Wrestling’s Anthony-Maroulis Trophy Thursday morning after an undefeated season at Lehigh. She captured the NCAA national championship at 110 lbs, earning All-American honors and overcoming injuries to finish 21-0.  The Brown and White
