  • Empire Fiber Internet announced plans to expand fiber optic service to several neighborhoods in the Lehigh Valley — residents can sign up for updates on its website as the provider prepares to offer ultra-fast connectivity to over 35,000 homes and businesses.  WFMZ
  • A Bethlehem inventor unveiled improved rolling papers designed for marijuana smokers to save time and hassle when rolling cannabis + the enhanced and flavorful design is available for licensing or sale from InventHelp’s national sales office.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation and the National Museum of Industrial History seek ideas for a time capsule honoring the region's manufacturing and culture to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Residents can submit suggestions until May 1 and view selected items in a museum exhibition starting July 4.  Lehigh Valley Live

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A bright fireball streaked across the sky on Tuesday, drawing hundreds of reports across the northeast (NASA said it first appeared at 2:30 p.m. off Long Island before breaking up above the Jersey shore). Local residents are encouraged to share any video clips with the American Meteor Society.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bethlehem fire officials warn that rising call volumes stretch the department thin. The fire service currently staffs 18 firefighters instead of the recommended 31, fueling concerns about meeting emergency demands.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Residents raised concerns about odors from a Spray-Tek factory and trash along the Sand Island Trailhead at a Tuesday City Council meeting in Bethlehem. Council approved budget amendments and a permit for Plantfest, and officials will contact the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to address the complaints + improve conditions.  The Brown and White
  • Easton Fire Chief Henry Hennings warned that understaffing risks lives during emergencies and said local municipalities, including Bethlehem Township, recently introduced a fire tax to recruit more firefighters; the International Association of Fire Chiefs will soon launch a volunteer campaign, urging residents to contact their local departments.  WFMZ
