COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jason Powell—an Associate Chief Engineer from Nazareth who attended local public schools—helped develop the rockets that launched Artemis II into space and says the mission nears its dangerous re-entry as astronauts will prepare to break through Earth's atmosphere at 5,000 degrees.  WFMZ
  • During a Thursday town hall in Lower Mt. Bethel, residents opposed a proposed data center that would add 500 jobs and bring up to $8 million in tax revenue. Developers say the project is in early planning stages and needs approval before moving ahead over five to seven years.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mike Moore and Leila Ehtesham lead students at Mountaintop Design Labs to turn ideas into projects using a woodshop, metal shop, laser cutters, and 3D printers (with safe practices) on campus. Their hands-on mentoring builds practical skills and confidence for learners from architecture, engineering, art, and science.  The Brown and White
  • Lehigh students face severe stress and health issues from a dense exam schedule this spring, and campus experts say the current exam culture harms well-being (they are calling for new testing methods to better balance academic challenge and health).  The Brown and White

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lehigh University won the Blood Donor Madness challenge held Thursday at Coca-Cola Park, earning 77 new donors + a $10,000 check for its scholarship fund among 13 local colleges. Miller-Keystone Blood Center organized the contest to boost awareness and registration of younger donors.  WFMZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bethlehem Planning Commission approved Lehigh University's new East Hill Residence Halls project on Thursday at 110 Mountain Drive South + 65-66 University Dr. The 23,394 sqft dorm will include 371 beds across 265 dwelling units and must meet city stormwater and fire access rules.  WFMZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • ArtsQuest announced that SteelStacks will host SoccerFest throughout June and early July, featuring live broadcasts of every FIFA World Cup 26 match, youth programming, live music & food and more. Key events include a talk with historian Dan Morrison on June 20 at the Bethlehem Visitor Center.  WFMZ
  • Freedom won its boys lacrosse game over Liberty (15-3) last week with five goals from Chase Sipel while the three city teams shared only three wins overall; Freedom now prepares to face Bethlehem Catholic, Moravian Academy and Pope John XXIII this weekend.  Bethlehem Press
  • Freedom’s volleyball team remains undefeated at 8-0 after sweeping seven of eight matches, including a March 26 win over Parkland and a marquee sweep over Whitehall to secure their District 11 lead. They will face Easton and Pocono Mountain East later this week.  Bethlehem Press
  • Craig Anderson, ’60, started with a local softball team and pitched for the inaugural Mets before returning to coach at Lehigh + his long career and mentoring shaped a legacy that influences local sports.  The Brown and White
