CULTURE NEWS

  • Seventeen-year-old Jaylene Goodman was crowned Pennsylvania Miss Amazing Teen Queen this past weekend and is using her story to empower others while supporting local food banks through donation drop-offs at salons in Bethlehem, with plans to attend a national summit in Chicago this summer.  WFMZ
  • English major Ashley Witkowski debuted her first romance novel A Guide to Getting Lost; the book blends her own experiences with a Boston university setting and earned BookTok reviews. She will host a book signing (May 5) at West Lawn Public Library and plans future events at local venues.  The Brown and White
  • Moravian University will kick off Revolutionary Conversations on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at the Payne Gallery to feature five community discussions about Bethlehem’s Moravian heritage and America’s 250th birthday (with discounted admission to Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites).  WFMZ
  • British glam-rock band The Struts will perform at Archer Music Hall at 7 p.m. on June 28. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 17 at the venue's website and box office (939 Hamilton St.).  Lehigh Valley News
  • SouthSide Arts District is launching Live on the Greenway, a free outdoor concert series featuring local bands and food trucks. The series will run on select Sundays from 1–3 p.m. at Harmony Pavilion starting with Joyous on May 24, with free parking available at nearby lots + garages.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 8, 23 BAVTS seniors from Bethlehem, Northampton and Saucon Valley were recognized for completing a Professional Skills Certificate Program that teaches key communication, teamwork and time management skills. Developed with Northampton Community College (funded in part by local donations), the course prepares students for work.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Multiple fire departments with aircraft battled an 87-acre brush fire on Blue Mountain along the Appalachian Trail near Palmerton; the blaze was 80% contained by 11 a.m. Monday and left no injuries reported + access on the trail was limited to foot travel. Crews continue working to prevent further spread.  Lehigh Valley Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Representative Ryan Bizzarro has proposed a bill to limit same-day gas price increases & give the attorney general power to investigate price gouging during declared emergencies. The bill has 16 co-sponsors and is headed to a legislative committee.  WFMZ

  • Lehigh’s men’s tennis team defeated Lafayette 4-0 on Tuesday at the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts — seniors and first-years secured key doubles and singles wins, and the team will face Bucknell on Apr. 18 at home.  The Brown and White
