COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Letter carriers collected non-perishable food donations on Saturday in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to support Second Harvest Food Bank, which will help serve 11 counties. Local drop-off sites included Blessed Sacrament Church, Saint Vincent Hospital, and several other neighborhood locations.  WFMZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A local nature observation report detailed that edible maple seeds from a silver maple and lavender-purple paulownia tree—whose blooms attract early bees—were noted in the area. The report also mentioned early monarch butterflies, budding dame's rocket, and rose-breasted grosbeaks that share nest-building duties.  Lehigh Valley Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT crews will work on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township with overnight lane restrictions starting 11:45 p.m. May 10 (westbound) and eastbound changes from 11:45 p.m. May 11 to 8 a.m. May 12, while Martins Creek-Belvidere Highway in Lower Mount Bethel Township will be closed May 11 through May 15 with a detour in effect.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • House Bill 2440 proposes to allow deer baiting on private property statewide (with exceptions for issues like disease control) after a 17-9 vote in the Game & Fisheries Committee. Lawmakers will consider the measure in the 2025–26 session as the baiting rules extend beyond the current five-county area.  Lehigh Valley Live

SPORTS NEWS

  • Southern Lehigh’s girls track team won the Colonial League title after weather delayed the pole vault to Thursday. Mia Stanten’s 9-foot vault earned 10 points, helping the Spartans secure a win (140-127) over Notre Dame-Green Pond.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • First-year men's tennis player Kosei Ogata, who came from Tokyo and California, now plays for Lehigh. He posted 7-5 in singles and 9-6 in doubles while supporting his team in Patriot League play (season shaped by family coaching and karate discipline).  The Brown and White
