  • Lehigh County held its 26th annual Unsung Hero Awards ceremony during Older Americans Month, recognizing 12 local volunteers such as Minal Desai (Meals on Wheels) for their dedicated community service.  WFMZ

  • Frank Casilio and Sons, Inc., a nearly 90-year-old concrete company with three ready-mixed plants in Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley, has been acquired by New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company, which is expanding its network across Pennsylvania, New York & Delaware.  WFMZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lehigh County Authority (LCA) issued a boil water advisory for part of east Salisbury Township due to a loss in pressure that may affect water quality; affected property owners received a notice last night and must boil water for one minute until safety is confirmed.  WFMZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freedom played Tuesday night’s EPC semifinal against Parkland after a long break, trying to rebound from their April 27 loss to Emmaus. If they won, the team is set to compete in today’s championship game at Allen — coach Yanek stressed that every player must stay focused.  Bethlehem Press
  • At the EPC Championships, Parkland led the boys with 156 points and Easton topped the girls with 126 points — the meet showcased strong individual finishes in races, hurdles, relays, jumps and throws.  Bethlehem Press
  • Freedom’s softball team defeated Northampton 3-1 on May 11 at Pates Park in Allentown and will play for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship today. Winning pitcher Madison Bixler’s RBI double broke a tie while coach Jeff Pronovich praised her impactful performance.  Bethlehem Press
  • Liberty’s tennis team defeated Parkland 3-2 in the district final on May 13 to secure their fifth-straight title. Seniors Finn Brown and Thomas Horvath led the win with a 6-3, 6-3 doubles match (a performance that refueled the team after a regular-season loss).  Bethlehem Press
  • Andrew Kelly, a Lehigh senior on men’s lacrosse, led his team to a Patriot League title in 2024 — highlighting hard work, consistency and lasting team bonds.  The Brown and White
