COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On April 24, the Bethlehem Garden Club planted an 8’ Eastern Red Bud tree along East Church Street at City Hall to mark Arbor Day and the nation’s 250th anniversary. Leaders and forester Olivia Teel spoke as parks workers added mulch and support posts—Urban Forestry Master Plan updates are underway.  Bethlehem Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Baking enthusiasts are invited to the Baked into Bethlehem Baking Challenge finals on Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at Luckenbach Mill—tickets are $5 for ages 13 and up and include access to an exhibition at local museums.  Bethlehem Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a state competition held on May 13 in Harrisburg, Nazareth Area Middle School students won first place for their video on B. Braun Medical, Inc.— marking their fifth consecutive win in a contest that promotes manufacturing careers.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development
  • St. Luke’s University Health Network welcomed 73 students on May 18 to its new College of Health Sciences at the hospital in Bethlehem, building a pipeline to ease local health care staffing needs (77 more will join in the fall and the college plans to expand its course offerings).  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

HEALTH NEWS

  • A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM today in Lehigh County as high humidity and temperatures near 97 degrees may raise heat illness risks; residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids (and stay indoors to avoid direct sun exposure).  WFMZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • High Hotels Ltd. broke ground on a Tempo by Hilton hotel in SouthSide Bethlehem on May 5 with local officials present, and the 140-room property is set to open in October with over 50 new jobs. The modern hotel will offer flexible meeting spaces and wellness amenities for both business and leisure travelers.  Bethlehem Press
  • Two new tenants—ShipBob and a global e-commerce accelerator—signed leases this month covering 590,402 sqft at Lehigh Valley Trade Center III in Upper Nazareth Township, bringing the site to full occupancy with access to I-78 and Route 22.  Lehigh Valley Live
