  • On Monday, May 25, the community in Upper Saucon marked Memorial Day with a ceremony and a 2-mile tribute walk to honor those who served.  WFMZ
  • On Memorial Day, fewer visitors gathered at Beltzville State Park (949-acre) in Carbon County due to cool, soggy weather; local anglers and boaters noted the light turnout before the park gates opened, and officials expected improved conditions later that day.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Macungie held Memorial Day tributes on Monday morning, featuring music and ceremonies both inside and outside to honor fallen heroes (despite rain).  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission awarded a contract to Pickering, Corts, and Summerson, Inc. to inspect 19 bridges for scour and erosion after the last 2021 review, with work scheduled in the coming weeks (contract value up to $399,194.68).  Lehigh Valley Live

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pennsylvania health officials are tracking alpha-gal syndrome, a red meat allergy from lone star tick bites, with about 300 positive tests reported yearly since early 2024. The department started enhanced data collection in Feb. statewide, so residents should use repellent and check for ticks when outdoors (to reduce risk).  Lehigh Valley Live
