COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Memorial Day ceremony in Community Park in Upper Saucon Township honored fallen soldiers and the Gold Star family of Army Corporal Joshua Harton from Bethlehem — children read his biography aloud while his mother Ruth shared her memories of his sacrifice.  WFMZ
  • On Memorial Day, a nonprofit honored local 1st Infantry Division soldiers Pfc. Leonard C. Groeger, Pvt. Franklin G. Sullivan and Pvt. John C. Svetecz—three Northampton County men who died during the June 6th, 1944 landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy. Their service is remembered as a vital part of Bethlehem’s World War II legacy.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Memorial Day ceremonies were held across the region as residents in Bethlehem and nearby towns joined parades, Taps and wreath-laying events to honor soldiers who died for our freedom. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Private William Henry Christman from Lehigh County was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on May 13, 1864; he died during the Civil War from illness and became the first soldier from his county interred there. His burial marked an early tradition for honoring fallen service members at this historic site.  WFMZ
