  • First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem will call for offers from developers this week to build affordable housing on its 32-acre campus to support the church’s finances and local needs. The church partnered with Foundry Commercial (a national real estate firm) and expects to pick a partner and have a recommendation ready by the end of this year (options include senior residences, homes for first-time buyers, or housing for young adults leaving foster care).  Lehigh Valley News

  • PPL Electric Utilities hosted reporters at its emergency command center outside Allentown to show how smart grid technology and FISR (Fault Isolation Service Restoration) help restore power quickly during outages. The utility said investments in equipment replacement and tree trimming have reduced outages and will support its response as it prepares for a stormy summer.  WFMZ
  • Bubbakoo's Burritos will open its first Lehigh Valley location at Creekside Marketplace, 1882 Leithsville Road in Lower Saucon Township this summer (the fast-casual chain will hire 25 workers and adds to its 10 locations in Pennsylvania).  Lehigh Valley Live

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday, police fatally shot a 73-year-old man at a South Whitehall Township home after he advanced toward officers with what appeared to be a rifle, the district attorney said— his long-term health issues and a note found inside the home are under investigation.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The new Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Regional Music Awards will hold its first ceremony on Dec. 7th at Emmaus Theatre — where about 30 awards will honor local musicians across various genres. Organizers have spent two years planning the show and will use fan voting and professional production to keep the event intimate and affordable.  WLVR

  • A team from Saucon Valley High School placed sixth in the statewide Envirothon contest after winning the Northampton County round at Louise Moore County Park—scoring 444.3 points in tests on wildlife, forestry, soils and aquatic ecology.
