CULTURE NEWS

  • Bethlehem is hosting its 21st annual Southside Film Festival featuring 80 indie films from around the world — with international entries from Cyprus, Ireland, Estonia, and Qatar and a local documentary, Rooted, scheduled for June 15 — at venues including Zoellner Arts Center and the Cathedral Church of the Nativity.  WFMZ
  • The award-winning musical 'The Producers' will run at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival on the DeSales campus (in Lehigh Valley) with previews today and Thursday, opening night Friday, and performances continuing until June 29 at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts. The production holds the record for most Tony Awards won by a single show and brings Broadway-caliber entertainment to the area.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Alice Cooper, known for hits such as 'School’s Out,' will perform at Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem at 8 p.m. on Aug. 16. Tickets—priced between $59.50 and $129.50—will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on June 13.  WLVR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Don Cunningham, president and CEO of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation, was named to the Trailblazers in Economic and Workforce Development list by City and State Pennsylvania on June 10—his award came as the region saw record economic output, over 340,000 jobs, and a median household income above $81,000, with other local leaders also being honored.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development
  • LVEDC hosted state legislators and federal officials on June 5 at Melt in Center Valley to review strong economic figures and discuss strategies for growing the region’s output—highlighting rising GDP, job increases, and new manufacturing projects that are expected to create hundreds of jobs.
