ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 41-year-old man, Joshua Clark of Weisenberg Township, died when his ATV rolled over while he was trying to help a disabled motorist on Thursday at 8:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Old U.S. 22, suffering blunt force head injuries just before midnight at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.  WFMZ
  • An overturned tractor-trailer flipped at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, June 27 near the Route 309 south exit along Route 22 west in South Whitehall—traffic slowed and the ramp closed as state police investigated the accident and have not confirmed any injuries.  Lehigh Valley Live

CRIME NEWS

  • A 40-year-old Allentown man has been charged Friday with vehicular homicide after allegedly driving a silver 2004 Mercedes-Benz that struck and killed an 85-year-old pedestrian on Oct. 19 near Dieruff High School, and he was released on $100,000 unsecured bail with his preliminary hearing set for 9:45 a.m. July 18.  Lehigh Valley Live

  • A new documentary titled My Mom Jayne produced by Mariska Hargitay premiered Friday on HBO/Max and shows the life and family history of her late mother, the famed Jayne Mansfield. The film details Mansfield’s roots in the Lehigh Valley and includes insights from her biographer Frank Ferruccio + highlights a disputed version of her birthplace.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A nonprofit report by TRIP (a transportation research organization) found that 34% of local roads have poor pavements and 15% of bridges are in bad condition in the Lehigh Valley. Local officials said more state and local funding will be needed to repair the roads and bridges as the region grows.  WFMZ
  • A Pennsylvania lawmaker introduced a bill to ban fluoride in public water statewide—joining a growing national trend where similar moves are under review in other regions—and the measure will be debated in the Senate soon.  WFMZ
  • On Thursday night, the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission approved a regionwide wastewater plan and a hazard mitigation plan for 15 communities that set a blueprint for sewer upgrades and disaster risk reduction—these measures will secure federal funding and require updates every five years.  Lehigh Valley News
  • State officials are warning SNAP recipients about a scam call that asks them to verify their identity—otherwise their benefits may be canceled. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services reminds residents that it will never request personal information through unsolicited calls and advises locking EBT cards to protect their benefits.  WFMZ
