  • Musikfest will debut Soberplatz, a new alcohol-free space for those in recovery or seeking a substance-free environment during the festival from Aug. 1 to Aug. 10+ the space, hosted by Sync Recovery and supported with funding from Northampton County Council, will offer meetups, wellness activities and recovery resources+ this initiative aims to create an inclusive venue for local music fans.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Miller-Keystone Blood Center honored 20 local organizations for exceptional blood drive sponsorship in 2024 — the groups together collected over 6,000 units to support local hospitals. Six organizations, including St. Joseph the Worker and Kempton Excavating, were recognized for collecting 200 or more units.  Bethlehem Press

  • Paris Baguette, a popular international bakery chain, opened its first Lehigh Valley location on West Broad Street in Bethlehem on May 9. The 3,800-square-foot cafe in the Dream Boyd Theatre complex serves pastries, cakes, sandwiches and coffee—landlord Zachary Fortier said sales are booming.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Local leaders will host the inaugural Lehigh Valley Entrepreneur Summit on Oct. 21 from 3-7 p.m. at Ben Franklin TechVentures (116 Research Drive) to help local business owners learn skills and connect with key support groups. CRIME NEWS

  • State police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old Upper Macungie Township woman who exited a moving vehicle in Weisenberg Township after an altercation on Monday, July 7 and died five hours later at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest from blunt-force head trauma.  WLVR
  • Bethlehem Police charged 63-year-old Treiza Habib with leaving an accident scene, tampering with evidence, failing to render aid and failing to report an accident after she struck 46-year-old Yeison Ramon Emeterio on Industrial Drive on May 15 — investigators tracked the victim's phone embedded in her damaged 2012 Honda Accord and she was arraigned with bail set, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 14 at 10:15 a.m.  WLVR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Weisenberg Lutheran Church will celebrate Christmas in July at 9 a.m. on July 20 with a candlelight service that features a decorated Christmas tree, hymns, Gospel readings, Holy Communion, and a social hour with cookies — a tradition that began in 2021 after virtual services were held during the pandemic.  Bethlehem Press

  • Applications open July 14th for $80 million in federal grants through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program to improve bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in Pennsylvania—A webinar will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday and draft applications must be submitted by Sept 5th.  Lehigh Valley News
