GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Whitehall Township's planning commission delayed Parkland High School's expansion approval on Thursday because staff said the district must fix several issues before resubmitting its plans—commissioners did grant a waiver for steeper grading. The school district must also address concerns over sidewalk deferrals and road upgrades before construction can begin. WLVR
- ➤ The Lehigh County Board of Commissioners approved a four-year, $34.67M contract with PrimeCare Medical to provide inmate medical, dental, and mental health care that will run from Aug. 1 through July 31 ending 2029 with an option for a two-year extension—one commissioner opposed the deal because of recent inmate suicides. The board also approved a $135,000 grant to Bloom for Women Inc. to support services for opioid use disorder funded by a share of a national opioid settlement. WLVR
- ➤ Pennsylvania is having a 911 outage that may delay help in an emergency. Residents are told to use local non-emergency numbers (for Bethlehem, 610-865-7171) and check county sites as teams work to fix the problem. WFMZ

- ➤ Bethlehem planners approved a plan on July 10 to combine three parcels at 934-946 Evans St and 1004 Evans into a site for a 37-unit apartment building — the project will also create a 40-car parking lot on the former Casa Blanca Night Club lot within the city’s High-Density Residential Zoning District.
