  • On July 17th, hundreds gathered at Rose Garden Park in Bethlehem to remember Congressman John Lewis—an icon of civil rights—whose nonviolent activism helped end segregation. Organizers honored his legacy of 'good trouble' and urged peaceful action, noting that similar rallies are planned in other cities this weekend.  Lehigh Valley News

  • More than 67,000 cases of three types of Power Stick antiperspirant have been recalled from A.P. Deauville in Forks Township because of issues with current good manufacturing practices (CGMP deviations) noted by the FDA and sold nationwide in stores like Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Walgreens. The recall began on July 10 and remains in effect.  WFMZ
  • B. Braun Medical announced on July 18th that it expanded its Heparin Sodium Injection portfolio by launching two new premixed products available in 25,000 Units Heparin in 0.45% Sodium Chloride Injection at 50 units per mL and 100 units per mL—both featuring a 2D enhanced barcode for improved scanning accuracy and produced with safer EXCEL IV Containers.  WFMZ

CRIME NEWS

  • A 37-year-old man was found dead Friday morning in a field on the 1400 block of Gaskill Avenue in Salisbury Township near a bus depot and Salisbury Elementary School; the Lehigh County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.  WFMZ

  • A colorful mural was unveiled on Friday at 313 Broadway across from Ideal Food Basket. Art teacher Carla Majczan and her students painted the work to show the need for healthy food in Bethlehem’s South Side — a designated food desert — and the project was supported by ArtsQuest, the Fine Arts Commission and the SouthSide Arts District.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Today, the Third Annual Ice House Jazz and Arts Festival is held at the Charles A. Brown Ice House on River St. in Bethlehem and features the Bill Goodwin Trio at 2 p.m., the Griffin Woodard Quartet at 3:15 p.m., a Lehigh Valley Students jam session at 4:30 p.m., and a final show by Moravian University faculty at 6 p.m.—the event also offers art exhibits and hands-on painting for both children and adults.  Bethlehem Press
  • Northampton Community College is ending its summer season with Hairspray at the Lipkin Theater in Bethlehem Township — the musical follows teen Tracy Turnblad as she fights for racial integration from July 16 to July 27. Reclaimed Performing Arts Company will launch its inaugural Lehigh Valley Theatre Showcase at East Hills Moravian Church — the festival features nine plays in three sections starting at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 19.  Bethlehem Press
  • Roey Ebert, a self-taught painter known for her chaotic floral acrylic works, will hold a Meet the Artist night from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 at Apollo Grill (85 W. Broad St) in downtown Bethlehem where she will display 40 new pieces for her fourth show.  Lehigh Valley News
