  • 102-year-old Eli Rauzon shared his World War II service history during a talk at Country Meadows Retirement Community in U. MACUNGIE TWP. He recounted his time in submarine repair and said he was fortunate to avoid the heavy combat of Normandy and Iwo Jima—his detailed account honored his long career.  WFMZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A four-vehicle accident on Route 22 in Bethlehem occurred on Monday just before 12:30 p.m.—an overturned box truck carrying food blocked all lanes until 2:30 p.m. while Pennsylvania State Police investigated and injuries were reported but not detailed.  WFMZ
  • Palmer Township residents rescued an elderly woman from a house fire on the 3,000 block of William Penn Highway that sent a firefighter to the hospital for heat exhaustion; investigators are now searching for the fire's cause while local damage is being assessed (a nearby cat was treated by a bystander).  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Historical Architectural Review Board approved certificates of appropriateness for touch-ups at Central Moravian Church—plans include adding new mahogany balusters to the bell tower and rebuilding the stone steps at the Old Chapel at 73 W. Church St., with City Council set to cast the final vote soon.  Lehigh Valley News
  • South African rock band Seether and American Idol winner Daughtry will perform at Wind Creek Event Center on Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m.—with P.O.D. and Kami Kehoe opening for them. Tickets will go on sale on July 25 at 10 a.m.—at the event center box office and website.  Lehigh Valley News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • LVEDC will return to Musikfest at SteelStacks in south Bethlehem to celebrate the Lehigh Valley with a selfie station, mug charms and branded giveaways—staff will answer questions about the region's quality of life. The booth will be open from 4-9 p.m. on August 1 and noon-9 p.m. on August 2.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new health tenant now operates at the former Martin Tower site as HNL Lab Medicine opened its patient service center at 1490 Eighth Ave in Bethlehem. The lab offers walk-in services for adults and children Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—with a self-pay option for lab tests.  WFMZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bethlehem Township's Board of Commissioners approved a conditional use for a 268-unit garden apartment complex—nine buildings on 17 acres at 5218 William Penn Highway with an amenity building and 557 parking spaces. The plan, proposed by Chrin V-7 Associates, has eight conditions including traffic and pedestrian improvements.  WFMZ
