- ➤ Astound announced an $81 million investment to expand its fiber network to over 315,000 homes and nearly 25,000 businesses in the Lehigh Valley and nearby areas by the end of 2026—upgrades will begin this summer. The investment allocates $39 million for expanding in the Lehigh Valley and $42 million for service in Scranton and Luzerne and Lackawanna counties. WLVR

- ➤ Filter King will open a new 61,600-square-foot manufacturing center in Bethlehem Township that may add up to 120 jobs, and trade publications say the move is part of a growing trend in local manufacturing. Kervan USA broke ground on a 90,000-square-foot facility in Bethlehem and Lower Nazareth townships that will consolidate its operations and boost production — a sign of the area's strong workforce and strategic location. - ➤ Affordable housing was a major focus at the July city council hearings where Mayor William Reynolds and his staff proposed how to allocate $1.84 million in federal funds—$1.42 million from the Community Development Block Grant and $418,000 from the HOME grant—to meet city needs. The SALDO ordinance revisions will be discussed at the Aug. 5 council meeting at 5:30 p.m., with planners revising the document to address property consolidation and rising rental costs. The plan requires improvements to intersections, extended curbs and sidewalks and confirmation of signal timings before construction begins — officials say these conditions will help manage traffic flow.
