CRIME NEWS

  • A Monroe County woman aged 40 is accused of faking terminal cancer to obtain thousands of oxycodone pills from 19 providers between 2021 and 2024 by forging documents and stealing doctors' identities—she was arrested Wednesday with bail set at $25,000 and is scheduled for a court hearing on Aug. 14.  Lehigh Valley Live

CULTURE NEWS

  • Megan Moroney headlined Preview Night on Musikfest’s main Steel Stage on Thursday in Bethlehem with a 91 minute show of 22 songs that mixed country tunes with pop sounds—reminiscent of Taylor Swift yet marked by her own gritty vocals. She pleased a nearly full crowd by delivering upbeat hits alongside slower, traditional ballads, showing her unique style throughout the performance.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Musikfest 2025 is happening in Bethlehem from Aug. 1 to Aug. 10 with a preview on July 31 that offers 15 free stages and one ticketed venue at PNC Plaza—Wind Creek Steel Stage. The festival has over 400 artists from local and other areas and also provides an alcohol-free zone—SoberPlatz—for meetups, wellness activities and free bus rides for visitors.  Bethlehem Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials from Vistas at South Mountain presented a new traffic and pedestrian control plan at Salisbury Township’s meeting on July 24 that calls for installing a concrete median and removing an overhead gate, crosswalk, and sidewalks near the development. Township commissioners will vote on the plan at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 + PennDOT is reviewing the proposal.  Bethlehem Press
  • The Pennsylvania State Police held an awards ceremony on Thursday that honored several troopers for courage and service, including Trooper Philip Buccigrossi and Trooper Justin Yozsa from Troop M in Bethlehem who helped safely evacuate over 50 people from a Whitehall Township apartment fire in October 2024. Other awards recognized SERT members and civilian staff for their actions in Lancaster and elsewhere + the ceremony highlighted the department’s commitment to public service.  WFMZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bethlehem's largest adult ice hockey tournament, Hockey Fights MS, began yesterday at Steel Ice Center and will run until August 3 (20th year) to support research for multiple sclerosis. More than (50 teams) are set to compete as founder Candice Arnold continues the fundraiser that has raised over $575,000 for MS research.  WFMZ
