- ➤ Bethlehem’s We Got Your Back program held its 13th school supply drive by giving out over 2,000 backpacks and supplies to Lehigh Valley students at drives held at Wesley Church — Center Street and Blue Valley Farm Show Center. The drive comes as back to school approaches in less than two weeks, helping students get ready for class. WFMZ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Officers from Pennsylvania State Police Troop M’s Fogelsville Station and Upper Macungie Township Police Department worked with the Highway Safety Network on a speed enforcement operation along Routes 222 and 100 in Lehigh County on Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.—issuing 82 citations, 22 warnings—and making one drug-related arrest. - ➤ Two people were hospitalized after a shooting on the 300 block of East Third Street in Southside Bethlehem early Friday morning — one person suffered several gunshot wounds and police have not made any arrests as the investigation continues. WFMZ
- ➤ A federal grand jury indicted eight suspects, including two Allentown residents, on drug trafficking charges from January to June that involved methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other narcotics, with law enforcement seizing drugs, firearms, and over $160K in cash—recovered narcotics were valued at about $600K. - ➤ Bethlehem’s Musikfest is in its 42nd year and runs until Aug. 10—featuring Frank DellaPenna’s masked performance on a 600-year-old carillon, lively polka concerts from noon, and long-time food vendors that locals enjoy. Lehigh Valley News
- ➤ Gilberto Santa Rosa performed a nearly two-hour show at Musikfest's main Steel Stage in Bethlehem on Aug 8th — he sang classic salsa numbers with a 16-member orchestra and paid tribute to late Latin musician Eddie Palmieri. Lehigh Valley News
