CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 47-year-old Etienne Theagene in Whitehall after he struck and killed 75-year-old veteran Edward Tomcics last Christmas when he was speeding in his neighborhood + he was released on $25,000 bail and a preliminary hearing will be held on Sept. 29.  Lehigh Valley Live

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy Award-nominated indie singer-songwriter Neko Case—known for chart hits—will perform at Archer Music Hall in Allentown at 7 p.m. Jan. 17, 2026 as part of a tour promoting her new disc Neon Grey Midnight Green, due out Sept. 25. Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 15—local fans have shown interest—and underground punk band Des Demonas will open the show.  Lehigh Valley News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bethlehem Planning Commission voted unanimously on Thursday night to advance the Linden Street conversion project to city council. The project will turn the one-way corridor into two-way traffic from East Fairview Street to East Church Street — it will cost just under $196,000, begin in Spring, and target completion in September.  WLVR
  • PennDOT will close the 309 South ramp to Tilghman Street East in South Whitehall Township on Tuesday, Aug. 19 and expects the work to end by Monday, Sept. 1 — drivers will follow a detour along Route 309 to Interstate 78 to Route 222 and then Route 309 North to reach Tilghman Street East. The project aims to improve safety in an area known for past crashes.  WLVR

  • The annual Duryea Hillclimb will host racers from 13 states, including the current course record holder — officials say the event is expected to draw local fans and heighten competition in the area.  WFMZ
