  • The new Bubbakoo’s Burritos Mexican-fusion restaurant outside Hellertown will open on Tuesday, Aug. 26—offering free burritos to the first 50 guests and five iPad giveaways as planned by local franchise owner Nivas Patel. The restaurant at Creekside Marketplace in Lower Saucon Township will serve build-your-own entrees and hire 25 workers.  Lehigh Valley Live

CRIME NEWS

  • Palmer Township police raided Sun and Moon Spa at 3128 William Penn Highway on Aug. 21 after complaints of prostitution during July and August—officers seized cash and condoms and detained two female workers who were later released as the investigation continues.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Palmer Township police investigated the Sun and Moon Spa (a Northampton County establishment) after complaints that staff accepted payment for sexual acts and executed a search warrant on Thursday (finding contraceptives and money hidden) as part of their probe.  WFMZ
  • Palmer Township Police are investigating reports of prostitution at the Sun and Moon Spa on William Penn Highway as undercover operations in July and August led to a search warrant — cash and condoms were seized and two women were detained pending further investigation.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday, a torpedo memorial was dedicated at VFW Egypt Post 7293 in Whitehall to honor World War II submarine veterans who died when 52 submarines were destroyed. The 20‐foot torpedo rests on stone pillars and plaques and was moved from the Navy/Marine Corps Reserve Center in Allentown after the Navy left in April 2022—local veterans overcame red tape to secure its proper display.  Lehigh Valley News
  • ArtsQuest’s Cold Brew Hullabaloo festival will return to SteelStacks on Sept. 14—local coffee shops will offer cold brews, artisanal treats and live music. Ticket prices start at $11 until Sept. 7 with VIP options available—vendors are still invited to apply.  Lehigh Valley News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Lisa Boscola announced that $5,257,109 in grant funding was approved by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority to expand broadband in the 18th Senatorial District—Verizon, Comcast and Commonwealth Telephone Co. will use the funds from the BEAD program to install fiber and improve internet access for local homes and businesses.  WFMZ
  • Nine Lehigh Valley farms were protected from development under Pennsylvania's Farmland Preservation Program after nearly $9 million was allocated to buy development rights for 33 farms; the program ensures these farms will remain productive (five are in Northampton County and four in Lehigh County).  WLVR

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Lehigh Valley housing market recorded a new median sales price of $375,000 in July—homes sold at 101.7% of their list price—raising affordability concerns as median household income met only 95% of the qualifying standard.
