BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Coopersburg lighting company, Lutron Electronics, was ordered to pay $5.95 million—an increased penalty with added interest—after a long patent case found the company copied a window shade design. The ruling by Judge Colleen McMahon also bars Lutron from selling the copied shading system.  WFMZ
  • Fisk Camera Shop, a 100-year-old institution in Wilson Borough at 2115 Birch St, will close Friday after three generations of family service and local photography work. The Fisk family said the shop will remain open briefly to complete customer orders—ensuring a smooth transition as it winds down.  WLVR

CRIME NEWS

  • A former Allentown officer was sentenced Tuesday to a seven-to-24-month prison term after pleading guilty to making terroristic threats with a deadly shotgun during a 2023 domestic incident in Easton—he must serve three years of probation that prohibits contact with his wife, requires the destruction of all firearms, and mandates mental health treatment, with parole expected by January 2027.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • State police say a 23-year-old Allentown man was hospitalized with stab wounds after a fight escalated—gunshots were fired on East Main Street in downtown Bath on Sunday afternoon, and authorities are searching for the suspect while no injuries were reported from the gunfire.  Lehigh Valley Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Nazareth Area School Board has re-appointed volunteer Steve Brown as the high school marching band drill designer after he faced backlash for opposing the location of a new elementary school—supporters pushed for his return.  Lehigh Valley Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hanover Township advanced a zoning amendment that would let up to 10 buildings including warehouses be built near the Lehigh Valley International Airport at 4300 Airport Road after a deal with Majestic Realty increased buffer space and building size limits to preserve open land. The board voted 3 to 2 to send the amendment to the planning commission despite community protests over traffic and quality of life.  WFMZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • At last month’s board meeting, the PIAA voted 22-9 to approve a 35-second shot clock for high school basketball for the 2028-29 season—pending two additional votes. Local coaches from Freedom and Bethlehem Catholic support the move despite concerns about added costs and shot clock operation.  Bethlehem Press
  • In the first week of high school girls tennis, Freedom and Liberty won their opening matches while Bethlehem Catholic lost a close match—its third of the season as it fell 3-4 on August 22.  Bethlehem Press
