Norfolk Southern has asked Bethlehem police to notify about 30 people living in tents on a 22-acre encampment along the Lehigh River by Sept.

15 so they must leave by Dec. 15—railroad officials cited health and safety concerns like waste and open fires. Local leaders and service providers will work with affected residents as new shelter plans are discussed at a City Council meeting on Sept. 2—efforts aim to connect people with supportive housing and care.
