COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bethlehem Police Department and Health Bureau are increasing efforts to relocate a homeless encampment under the Hill-to-Hill bridge by Dec.15 — Norfolk Southern issued a removal notice citing health and safety concerns — after community complaints. Norfolk Southern will begin posting removal notices on Sept.10 while community partners plan temporary housing and support for the unhoused.  The Brown and White

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A fire forced The Gemeral Store's first shop to close earlier this summer, but the family-run retailer will open a new store at 216 W. Broad St this November—community support from online and in-person shows helped it bounce back.  WFMZ
  • Bitty and Beau's Coffee in Bethlehem launched its seasonal fall menu today with drinks like Pumpkin Spice Latte topped with cinnamon and Maple Cream Cold Brew—staff say the new menu brings warm, autumn flavors to local customers while the shop employs more than 450 people with disabilities nationwide.  WFMZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fifteen trade publications showcased expansions by Lehigh Valley manufacturers in August — including Bosch Rexroth’s $20 million logistics center and Phoenix Tube’s 75,000-square-foot plant expansion — and featured new facilities from Filter King and Kervan.   • Rachel McDevitt joined the LVEDC Board of Directors on Monday, September 8th as the first Martin Guitar executive on the board—she was the VP of Human Resources at C.F. Martin & Co. and replaced outgoing director Adam Galczynski.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development
  • LVEDC’s Lehigh Valley Talent Strategies Initiative won a Bronze Award from the International Economic Development Council on September 8th, showing that its data-driven plans help match local workers with business needs. LVEDC also earned Gold Awards for its Commercial Real Estate Report and Annual Report — a sign of its strong performance among only 90 groups meeting tough standards.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bethlehem Area School District confirmed former Governor Wolf Elementary Principal Jodi Frankelli as its new chief pupil services officer on Monday night—she will serve from Nov. 11 to June 30. The board also discussed school air quality and plans to resume radon testing—voting for funding is set for Sept. 22.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new traffic pattern began Monday at the Route 309-Tilghman Street interchange in Bethlehem—officials said the change is aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.  WFMZ

  • First-year soccer player Luciano Larrea scored the game-winning goal on Aug. 25 for the Mountain Hawks against Rider University when teammate Bora Turker was injured—earning him Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 1.  The Brown and White
