COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Longswamp Township is offering all first responders a free breakfast and special reduced hotel rates throughout September—this offer is available to firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and law enforcement from Sunday through Thursday and is subject to availability.  WLVR

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local couple saved the nation's second drive-in when they bought Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre in Orefield, preserving Pennsylvania's first drive-in that opened in 1934. The couple (Lauren McChesney and Matt McClanahan) runs the historic theater with regular summer screenings and special events.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Northampton County College hosted its first Catch Our Rising Stars intercollegiate theater showcase (featuring students from Northampton Community College, Moravian, Lafayette and Kutztown Universities). Organizers said they will expand the event next year (organizer Allyson Krawchuk-Boschen noted the talent impressed the audience).  WFMZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lehigh Valley parkland owners announced they will allow hunting on every permitted Sunday in 2025 while state parks limit hunting to three set Sundays. The change follows a new law that removed old restrictions—officials say more hunters may be seen on trails and fields.  Lehigh Valley Live

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lehigh Valley Health Network will offer free flu shots at drive-through clinics on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hecktown Oaks in Lower Nazareth Township and on Sunday, Oct. 12 at the Integrated Health Campus in Upper Macungie Township from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The clinics are open to everyone 6 months and older with high-dose options for those over 65.  Lehigh Valley Live
