- ➤ Celtic Classic Highland Games and Festival began on Friday in Bethlehem and will run through Sunday with better weather than in past years—organizers expect 180,000 to 200,000 visitors to enjoy highland games, live music, and food. - ➤ Cedar Crest College and DeSales University launched their fall season shows as The Marvelous Wonderettes Glee Club Edition ran from Sept. 25 to 29 at Samuels Theater and DeSales University Act 1 staged Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5. - ➤ Northampton County human services workers from SEIU Local 668 gathered Friday outside the human services building in Bethlehem Township to protest possible furloughs affecting about 175 workers starting Oct. 20 amid a state budget impasse. County officials said the furlough tool would be used only as a last resort, while union leaders and county critics urged measures such as a short-term loan to keep essential services operating—raising concerns about support for vulnerable residents. - ➤ The northbound lanes of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday for a bridge replacement project between Quakertown (Exit 44) and Lehigh Valley (Exit 56). Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will guide drivers onto a detour using PA Route 663, PA Route 309, Interstate 78, and U.S. Route 22. WLVR
