  • Josh Hart, a New York basketball star and longtime candy fan, was named MIKE AND IKE's first Chief Candy Officer by Bethlehem-based Just Born — he will test new flavors and lead behind-the-scenes events in his new role — affirming his lifelong connection with the iconic brand.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tesla, a 1990s rock band, will perform at Wind Creek Event Center on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m.—tickets priced between $49.50 and $79.50 will go on sale Friday, Oct. 10.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Bethlehem’s Colonial Industrial Quarter has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding universal value—its restored 18th-century buildings show the legacy of early Moravian industry—and the site draws over one million visitors a year with plans to add the Overlook on History in late summer.   • Malyke Hines '25 launched the student clothing brand Three Suns Archives that celebrates his family roots and unique style by designing each piece himself and working with manufacturers — Pakistan and China.   • Archer Music Hall opened in March in Allentown and is helping revive the region by offering a modern venue for live entertainment. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State environmental officials announced that nominations for the 2026 River of the Year open Monday and will be accepted until 5 p.m. Nov. 21; the contest, administered by POWR—funded by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources—seeks to recognize Pennsylvania waterways and their conservation efforts.  WLVR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bethlehem Police Department is facing an officer shortage as Chief Michelle Kott said on Tuesday night that 14 vacancies and officers on long-term injury or military leave have dropped the force from 154 to the high 130s. The City Council will start budget talks with the union next year — officials plan to address the staffing issue with revised hiring efforts.  WFMZ
  • Bethlehem City Council met yesterday and approved a $150,000 contract for a UNESCO World Heritage Site Manager role at Moravian University—together with a $39,960 contract to update the North Side Alive Plan and a $12,000 fund for affordable housing—and they discussed steps to boost police recruitment; the council will meet again on Oct. 21st.   The Brown and White
