- ➤ Local police departments and community partners will host Drug Take Back Day events on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—allowing residents to dispose of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications safely at designated drop-off sites and permanent MedReturn boxes. WFMZ

- ➤ FLSmidth Cement’s sale to a Pacific Avenue Capital Partners affiliate is nearly complete after meeting all required approvals and is expected to close in the fourth quarter; local operations in the Lehigh Valley will remain unchanged. The cement division will begin operating under a new name while the company continues its mining equipment business (preserving its longstanding legacy). WFMZ
- ➤ Bethlehem manufacturer Ecopax will expand its factory with a 104,328-square-foot addition at Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII that will create up to 20 new jobs. - ➤ Clever Girl Winery in Easton remains closed after a sprinkler mishap on Oct. 17 damaged its tasting room—cleanup continued on Oct. 21—and buyers can purchase bottles at its satellite location. In Bethlehem, operators of 3 Broke Blokes Grille at Lost Tavern Brewing closed the eatery to run a food truck instead—citing business challenges—and Steel Ice Center is expanding with a third rink and new fitness center to meet local demand. - ➤ The PUC announced yesterday that it has put PPL Electric’s proposed rate increase on hold to allow investigation and public hearings—this review, with a decision expected by July 7, may lead to smaller rate hikes for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. WLVR
- ➤ Bethlehem Fire Department held its annual memorial service today at the fire station on Broad Street to honor fallen first responders. - ➤ Deeana Bedics—diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2013—hosts an annual Halloween bash through her nonprofit Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo to help cancer patients cover bills and groceries. - ➤ Sophomore Audrey Jimenez won a silver medal at the U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia this morning, marking her sixth career world medal while representing Team USA (U17, U20, U23). - ➤ Born in China and raised in five countries, sophomore goalkeeper Anton Kinnunen joined Lehigh after hearing about it from teammate Paul Smajlaj and earned Patriot League goalkeeper of the week on Sept. 29 after a shutout win against Navy. He chose Lehigh for its academics and competitive soccer — advice from veteran players bolstered his growth — and he now dreams of playing for Finland’s national team while preparing for five upcoming conference games.
