- ➤ Red Cross of Pennsylvania Rivers is accepting nominations for heroes to be honored at the 2026 Lehigh Valley Heroes Breakfast, which will be held March 13 at Olympus Corporation of the Americas in Upper Saucon Township. - ➤ Daniel Seddiqui, known as the 'Most Traveled Person in America,' visited Bethlehem and Allentown and said the Lehigh Valley is one of his favorite regions for its bright building lights, rolling hills, and unique architecture — his stops included the historic Moravian Book Shop and Historic Hotel Bethlehem. - ➤ Pennsylvania lawmakers have not passed a budget since July 1, leaving early learning providers to cover costs from free pre-K programs and take on loans. Charles Dinofrio from Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers said lawmakers must fund these services properly to protect classrooms—providers face mounting debt while children keep attending. WLVR

- ➤ Organizations can nominate a river or stream for the 2026 Pennsylvania River of the Year until Nov. 21 in an effort to spotlight water conservation—public voting will begin in late November. The winning nominee will earn a $15,000 grant to support celebration activities. Lehigh Valley Live
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Plainfield Township supervisors changed the zoning of 211 acres for waste disposal on Aug. 27 near WM’s Grand Central Landfill so the company can run its operations for 20 more years—the current site had about four more years of capacity as of 2024. Local resident Justin Huratiak filed appeals over health worries and problems with the process, and a zoning hearing is set for Dec. 3. Lehigh Valley Live

- ➤ Lehigh Valley Health Network announced it will end its contract with UnitedHealthcare, citing disputes over agreed payment rates.
