  • Lehigh Valley resident Ricky Brown said on a Saturday morning show that his family in Jamaica was affected by Hurricane Melissa. He noted that his nephew and brother had reached out while his sister—who is married with six children and four grandchildren—has not yet been contacted because a landslide blocked her route.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Moravian University opened its new 82,000-square-foot Haupert Union Building, called the HUB, on October 8 at its Main Street campus in Bethlehem. The center — which offers student wellness services and event space for local groups — helps bridge the university and the community.  Lehigh Valley Live

  • Blue Mountain Resort—preparing for a snowy season—will host a pre-season celebration Saturday featuring live music, bonfires and mechanical snowboard riding contests for local visitors.  WFMZ

  • No. 4 Lehigh defeated Colgate 27+7 today in Hamilton, New York; their win kept them undefeated at 11+0 and set up a season finale against Lafayette on Nov 22.  The Brown and White
  • Sophomore Seamus Mack and first-year Hattie Mack are competing for Lehigh in wrestling, a sport they grew up with in Hempfield. Hattie is on Lehigh’s first Division I women’s team in Pennsylvania and Seamus wrestles with the men’s squad—both siblings plan to support each other throughout the season.  The Brown and White
