COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local volunteers baked 6,000 cookies to help the Bethlehem shelter this fall — the city also marked 80 years since WWII ended with a peace celebration with its Japanese sister city. An accessible playground opened after nearly a year of work as a Bethlehem Steel tour guide and local women highlighted community projects — and Granola Factory’s holiday cookies have arrived at Wegmans.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Volunteers baked 6,000 cookies that will be paired with hot apple cider in November and hot chocolate in December at the Christmas City Village event—this effort supports the Bethlehem Emergency Shelter, which offers 65 beds and warm meals from November 1 through April 30 to help those in need this winter.  Lehigh Valley Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lehigh’s Blacksmithing Club will begin construction on its first dedicated lab at Whitaker Laboratory in the coming months—this new space will let students practice both traditional and modern metalworking techniques with help from Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites and Lehigh Heavy Forge.  The Brown and White

  • City officials gathered Thursday morning in City Hall’s rotunda at 10 E Church St to update residents on the Climate Action Plan—officials reported strong progress in cutting municipal emissions and set future targets for further reductions throughout the community.  WLVR

  • Global Hope International will host a free two-day clinic at Northeast Middle School in Bethlehem on Dec. 6-7 where community members can get dental, vision, and medical care without an ID requirement—attendees must choose between dental and vision services because of time limits.  Lehigh Valley Live

  • Lehigh’s Mountain Hawks are 11-0 so far and will face Lafayette on Saturday in a key step toward a 12-0 regular season—Coach Kevin Cahill said the player-led team is focused on improving every day by treating each game as one play at a time.  The Brown and White
  • Thirty-two teams raced in Lehigh’s annual Bed Races Wednesday night down Packer Avenue to celebrate Rivalry week and Saturday’s football game against Lafayette. Ninety seniors from various campus groups competed in rounds that have kept this tradition alive since the 1970s — a sign of strong campus spirit.  The Brown and White
  • Local District 11 football teams are keeping their playoff runs alive as Whitehall lost in the 5A opening while Easton won its 6A matchup and Northwestern now aims for back-to-back state titles—meanwhile Becahi was defeated by Southern Lehigh.  Bethlehem Press
  • Backstroke duo Ben Kisker and Tristan Ronayne from Lehigh finished first and second in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events against Rider on Oct. 18, touching within two hundredths of a second in each race.   • Lehigh cheerleaders kick off game day tomorrow with cheers echoing across campus as they mark the 161st anniversary of the nation’s longest uninterrupted football game—continuing traditions like EcoFlame and the President’s Tailgate.
