- ➤ Holiday initiatives in Bethlehem offer many donation chances as the Northeast Community Center leads a nonperishable food drive at 74 W. Broad St.—other events include a trellis ornament fundraiser for Victory House at Payrow Plaza on Nov. 28, a toy drive benefiting the Boys & Girls Club, a CAT Holiday Bikes Program donating 100 refurbished bicycles, and a Stuff the Bus campaign by school bus drivers from Nov. 28 through Dec. 23. - ➤ Local groups are offering many holiday volunteer opportunities for the community including setting up luminarias for New Bethany’s 28th annual event at Triangle Park in Emmaus on Dec 13 — roles also include assisting at Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites, food pantry work, and positions with the Eastern PA Down Syndrome Center, Ribbons of C.A.R.E., and the Salvation Army Short-Term Foster Care Program. - ➤ New Bethany Food Access handed out boxed turkeys, green beans, corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes on Wednesday to help local residents before Thanksgiving. The nonprofit will serve a meal today from noon to 1 p.m. at Wyandotte and West Third streets—expecting to distribute over 370 turkeys over four days to support families in need. WLVR

- ➤ Lehigh Valley International Airport recorded 93,240 passengers in October—a 13% increase from last year—and officials say this strong performance helps prepare for the upcoming holiday rush. - ➤ UGI Utilities Inc. announced a smaller-than-expected increase in its purchased gas cost rate that will take effect on Dec. 1—raising the average monthly heating bill from $118.43 to $119.49 with a 0.9% increase. WLVR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pennsylvania lawmakers changed tax credits in the new $50.1 billion budget by creating a Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit modeled on the federal credit that will give up to $800 off 2025 returns—this change will benefit low-income workers. The budget also revised the Affordable Housing Tax Credit to allow the state agency to award grants to housing developers through investor bids. Lehigh Valley Live
- ➤ Fifteen local municipalities (including South Whitehall and Upper Milford) approved the $318M Kline’s Island Sewer System plan to upgrade aging wastewater facilities, and the state DEP will review it for 120 days (with a possible 60-day extension) before further discussion in February or March. - ➤ Commonwealth flags will fly at half-staff in Northampton County through Nov. 29 to honor retired state trooper and fire captain Michael Booke, who died on Nov. 12 after a water-rescue training exercise. Gov. Shapiro ordered the tribute to recognize Booke’s 25 years with the state police and 27 years with the Northampton Fire Department—service that earned him a lasting place in our community. WLVR
