COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Bethlehem will host the Stars of Bethlehem Holiday Concert and Reception on Dec. 16 at the historic Chapel of Central Moravian Church & Hotel Bethlehem, with concerts from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. and receptions from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; the fundraiser will benefit The Freezer Ministry & Garden Gatherers so they can continue their no-cost farmers market program that in the past three years provided 435,000 pounds of vegetables & fruit to local school families. - ➤ The Northeast Community Center in Bethlehem hosted its annual turkey giveaway on Nov. 20, giving out 150 frozen turkeys, meal kits, and hygiene items to preregistered residents. The event saw strong community backing and added a second day on Nov. 24 with 100 turkeys provided by New Bethany Ministries—efforts that helped meet rising local need. Bethlehem Press
- ➤ The Upper Lehigh Historical Society will host a holiday bake sale featuring clear toy candy and homemade cookies at the Schneck log house (5041 PA Route 873 across from McDonald’s) on Dec. 14 from 1-4 p.m. Union Lutheran Church will hold a free Christmas concert on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m., Union United Church of Christ in Neffs will stage Lights in the Grove with crafts, hot chocolate and s’mores on Dec. 6 from 3-5 p.m., and Parkland High School Chorale will perform a free concert on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Bethlehem Press
- ➤ The annual Peace Walk will take place Dec. 13 when pilgrims meet at 529 E. Broad St. in Bethlehem and board buses at 10:45 a.m. to travel the 10-mile route from Bethlehem to Nazareth along Route 191. The event—66 years in the making—features rest stops for light refreshments, a 4:30 p.m. candle lighting at College Hill Moravian Church, and a Carol Singing at Payrow Plaza followed by supper at 75 E. - ➤ The Bethlehem Area Public Library Southside Branch will host a holiday book sale at 400 Webster Street on December 10 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on December 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — offering used books, DVDs, CDs, audio books, toys and more for both adults and kids. Bethlehem Press

- ➤ Martin Guitars has been made in the Lehigh Valley since 1839 — the company remains here because local workers and a strong community help it make high-quality guitars — as President Thomas Ripsam explained at a recent LVEDC event in Allentown. Lehigh Valley Economic Development

- ➤ Downtown Bethlehem Association’s Christmas City Village fills the Sun Inn Courtyard with holiday cheer — turning it into a German Weihnachtsmarkt with wooden huts and Moravian stars that run from Nov. 14 through Dec. 21. The event offers festive shopping, treats, and charity booths supporting local efforts to ease homelessness and hunger — giving visitors a joyful holiday experience in downtown Bethlehem. - ➤ Frances Quiniones Mullen opened Panchitas Kitchen in 2021 — using chicken to reinvent traditional carnitas and drawing on her Puerto Rican and Dominican roots — and now serves local markets and community events while planning to add a food truck in the next five years. She values customer feedback to refine her dishes and share her heritage with Bethlehem. The Brown and White
- ➤ Corrine Mammana will perform an evening of holiday jazzy pop at Musikfest Cafe at SteelStacks on Dec 7 at 7 p.m.—the concert will benefit the Children’s Home of Easton and include a Q&A session with children from the home. Bethlehem Press

- ➤ Douglas Kowalewski joined Lehigh’s psychology department as a teaching assistant professor in fall and brings his passion for teaching and music to the classroom—he is a first-generation scholar who returned home after earning his doctorate at the University at Albany. The Brown and White
- ➤ Bethlehem Area School Board announced Monday that with Pennsylvania’s state budget approved last November (Nov. 12) the district received $2.5 million more than expected and will now use only $3.2 million from its reserves instead of the planned $5.7 million. The board also reappointed its officers (president Michael Faccinetto and vice president Shannon Patrick, whose terms last until December 2026). WLVR

- ➤ Marine Corps Detachment No. 284 from Bethlehem and Lehigh Valley Detachment No. 296 celebrated the US Marine Corps’ 250th birthday on November 10 at the Marine Corps monument at Cedar Beach Park in Allentown — the ceremony included speeches by Marine leaders, the playing of the Marine’s Hymn, and a closing prayer. - ➤ Norfolk Southern police and Bethlehem police will clear an unhoused encampment on Norfolk Southern land along the Lehigh River on Dec. 15 because the site is too close to an active track and poses health and safety risks from open fires and poor waste disposal. The city and Community Connections Program will help residents find alternative locations as officers work to de-escalate any disputes. WFMZ

- ➤ Saucon Valley runner Virginia Kraus, a Dartmouth commit, said she began running with her parents and Coach K in fourth grade—she has earned four Colonial League titles, four District XI titles and four PIAA State championships and follows a set race routine to boost her performance.
