COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lehigh Valley Zoo finished phase one of its Children’s Activity Area project on Wednesday — opening the Fred & Anne Jaindl Barnyard and St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital Playground. Visitors can feed animals including a baby alpaca, while phase two will begin as the project wraps up by 2027.  WLVR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bethlehem readies for America's 250th birthday next year as America250PA unveiled a custom bell sculpture at Moravian University on Wednesday. Local artist Ted Colegrove created the artwork for the Bells Across Pennsylvania trail (108 installations statewide).  WFMZ
  • Christkindlmarkt, a Moravian heritage holiday market hosted by ArtsQuest, is underway at the SteelStacks until Dec. 21 and features over 150 vendors, holiday activities, and free entry on Friday evenings (5-8 p.m.) with a $12 fee on other days.  The Brown and White

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Roger and Nancy Bowman, retired teachers from Lenhartsville, were chosen winners of Lehigh County 4-H’s 2025 Friend of 4-H Award for over 30 years of service to agriculture and youth education; the couple has supported local fairs (including the Allentown Fair) and helped run livestock clubs benefiting 4-H members.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Bethlehem Area School District announced Daniel Terry will serve as Hanover Elementary’s new principal starting Jan. 5, 2026 (pending school board approval). He brings experience as Assistant Principal at Northeast Middle School and as Dean of Students at Liberty High School.  WFMZ
  • Brittany Reese, a dedicated teacher at Broughal Middle School for eight years, has been named its first female principal — a milestone marking her commitment to student success. She will build community partnerships and drive improvements in literacy and math.  The Brown and White
  • Southern Lehigh School Board reorganized on Tuesday in UPPER SAUCON TWP. after a tumultuous year, electing familiar faces Candi Kruse as board president and Emily Gehman as vice president to lead until December 2026—four new directors were also sworn in following a recent election.  WLVR
  • Two Liberty High School graduates secured a U.S. patent for a baseball helmet safety design that improves reuse with engineered Nylon materials. They plan to pursue the sale or licensing of the patent as they continue their education with guidance from local mentors & industry experts.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Liberty High School alumni Joseph Barlow and Sid Tekumalla received a U.S. patent for a baseball helmet safety device that uses a honeycomb-shaped nylon structure to absorb impact and recover its shape+ the Bethlehem Area School District praised their breakthrough.  WFMZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is asking the Department of Education to withdraw a proposal that would limit federal loans for graduate nursing programs. The proposed caps, which are much lower than current costs, could worsen nurse shortages and will open for public comment in the coming weeks.  WFMZ

  • Grace Hughes set a new record at the Patriot League Championships on Oct. 31 (cutting her 6k time to 21:03) as the only Lehigh runner to place; she later finished 67th at NCAA regionals on Nov. 14.  The Brown and White
