COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley, located in South Bethlehem, has served the community for over 50 years by providing food assistance, career counseling, and outreach programs for families. The center welcomes everyone and partners with local colleges to promote equity + inclusion.  The Brown and White
  • The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley received a $40,000 grant from Phillies Charities + was recognized Wednesday night at Citizens’ Bank Park after being nominated by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.  WLVR
  • Caring Hearts has honored local resident Johnny Videira by decorating a police-themed tree with police cars + blue ornaments at Victory Park in Slatington. A lighting ceremony is scheduled Saturday at 5:15 p.m. to benefit Caring Hearts programs.  WFMZ
  • Foster children and their families enjoyed the Lehigh Valley Zoo's Winter Light Spectacular on Thursday, with free tickets sponsored by the District Attorney's Office using confiscated drug money & giving foster kids a memorable holiday night. The initiative aimed to return community resources back to local kids.  WFMZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bethlehem Area School District named Daniel Terry as the new principal of Hanover Elementary School. Terry brings nearly 20 years of experience as an educator + leader and will begin his role on Jan. 5 pending board approval.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • The latest Lehigh Valley Talent Newsletter, published Thursday, Dec. 4, by LVEDC, spotlights an initiative that boosts middle school career exploration while highlighting Pennsylvania’s top ranking for career building. It also outlines LVEDC’s new strategic plan to strengthen regional talent & fuel economic growth.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development
  • Lehigh University Rocket Association is training about 40 students (from diverse majors) in its new lab on Mountaintop Campus to build and test Level 1 rockets. The club will compete in the International Rocketry Engineering Competition in Midland, Texas, in June to earn certifications.  The Brown and White
  • On Oct. 28, Lehigh unveiled its new brand The Real Campaign (highlighting academic excellence, student success, campus identity, and community connection) to unite its campus and alumni, officials said. The rebranding appears on campus signs, the website, and campus tours.  The Brown and White

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bethlehem Parking Authority and Larken Associates proposed Ironside Lofts — a mixed-use building with 105 units — next to the new Walnut Street Garage after the review board met on Wednesday. The board requested a modified design with a 7-foot setback and will vote on appropriateness early next year.  WLVR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lehigh football coach Kevin Cahill was named the Eddie Robinson Award winner by Stats Perform this morning, recognizing his achievement as the top coach in all FCS conferences. The recognition follows his role in turning the team around with back-to-back Patriot League titles & 17 consecutive regular season wins.  The Brown and White
  • No. 5 Lehigh hosts No. 12 Villanova in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday at Goodman Stadium; the game comes after Lehigh’s Patriot League championship win and first-round bye while Villanova enters with a nine-game winning streak.  The Brown and White
  • Blue Mountain Resort starts its winter 2025-26 season today at 9:00 a.m. with 40 acres, 13 trails & five chairlifts in Palmerton while additional trails and snow tubing will join later this week. Upgrades include enhanced snowmaking and LED trail lights for night skiing.  WFMZ
