COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sixteen workers from four local manufacturers built 40 bicycles on Dec. 10 during a Lean Manufacturing training event (Santa’s STANDARD WORKshop) and donated them to Community Bike Works to help connect youth with mentors.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development
  • American Crane packaged and donated over 27,000 mac and cheese meals during its annual GRIT Day on Dec. 11 to help families in need in Berks and Schuylkill Counties. The event, led by Executive Director Stephanie Delibertis in partnership with Helping Harvest, supported the company’s Hoist Up! Outreach Initiative.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Disney On Ice's Road Trip Adventures will perform at PPL Center at 7 p.m. today. The four-day show features classic characters and skater Jaysa Bozzuto, who said she has dreamed of performing since childhood.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Dear Santa store opened on Main Street Bethlehem offering handcrafted holiday gifts and a fun Christmas experience to visitors from around the world. Manager Karen Dodge said the shop features reindeer bells (worn by Dasher) and an elf workshop where kids can play and write letters to Santa.  WFMZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters say a fast-moving storm will bring 2 to 4 inches of snow to Bethlehem beginning late Saturday night and ending Sunday morning. The system will also drop high temperatures into the mid-20s on Sunday (with winds gusting up to 35 mph), creating brisk wind chills.  WLVR
  • Gov. Shapiro’s administration announced nearly $530,000 in funding on Thursday for 15 conservation projects statewide, including $42,200 for Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and $38,400 for Wildlands Conservancy, which will survey native wildlife and guide efforts to protect biodiversity.  WFMZ
  • Lehigh Gap Nature Center recorded over 22,000 migrating raptors this autumn, more than double last year’s count and setting records for nearly 700 bald eagles and 1,620 turkey vultures (the fifth-highest season total since 1961). Officials noted favorable weather and volunteer support and will share data with researchers.  WLVR
  • On Nov. 19, Lehigh Valley Zoo relocated four bison bulls from Trexler Nature Preserve to Seneca Nation lands in a milestone that advances plans to create a conservation herd + restore native grasslands and support local wildlife.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voting is open for PennDOT's Paint the Plow contest, letting student artists from schools (Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, and Northampton) showcase their snow plow designs for winter driving safety. Votes can be cast online until Sunday with winners announced later.  WFMZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Northwoods, a new 200-home land lease community with manufactured homes starting at $260,000, is under construction on 60 acres off W. Mountain View Drive in Lehigh Township, with a fixed $800 monthly land lease fee covering lawn care, snow removal, and road maintenance (until Jan. 2029).  WFMZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tyler Greene takes over at Freedom's wrestling room as head coach this season, inheriting a team of mostly underclassmen and a few veterans — the squad coming off recent wins and losses is set to build a tougher style on the mat.  Bethlehem Press
  • Emmaus stunned the Hawks 31+21 in last week's league opener, earning its first win in 20 years while handing the school its first loss since Jan. 10; coach Mike Cole said the setback will help the young team refocus for upcoming duals.  Bethlehem Press
  • Liberty's wrestling team had one of its best offseasons ever (by head coach Brandon Hall) as it aimed to improve on last year's 8-10 record with a young roster. The Hurricanes opened on Dec. 3 with a win and held matches on Dec. 10 and at home on Dec. 11.  Bethlehem Press
