  • New Bethany received a $475,000 grant to expand its South Bethlehem drop-in center into a community health hub with renovated 18,500 sqft — state leaders announced the funding following a near doubling of the agency’s client roster since before the pandemic.  WLVR
  • Bethlehem’s WWII veteran Arthur Fischman celebrated his 100th birthday today — with decorations, snacks, and a beautiful cake — as neighbors gathered to honor his milestone.  WFMZ
  • Fraud specialist Amy Nofziger from AARP Fraud Watch Network warns Bethlehem residents to guard against holiday scams such as fake social media ads, tampered gift cards, and bogus delivery texts — shoppers should use trusted vendors and credit cards for better protection.  WLVR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A popular Lehigh Valley Christmas shopping destination closed Friday (due to a power outage) during its final weekend, affecting many holiday shoppers. Business officials said the closure is temporary and operations will resume once power is restored.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Locally filmed BET+'s original 'Love After Holidays' premiered on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Univest Public Media Center in Bethlehem, showcasing homegrown talent and a student short film by the Excelsior after-school program; a $25 donation ticket helped support InnaStar’s upcoming toy giveaway (Dec. 22 at Children of Joy Academy in Allentown).  Lehigh Valley News
  • PA Local released a festive holiday playlist (featuring Pennsylvanian-written songs) that spans religious hymns, classic covers and modern tracks. The collection includes contributions from artists in Pittsburgh, Philly and Bethlehem, highlighting our state’s rich musical heritage.  WFMZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lehigh County commissioners approved a 3% raise for Cedarbrook nursing home union workers on Dec. 19 under a new one-year deal with United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1776. The agreement covers aides, clerical and maintenance staff + excludes nurses and supervisors.  WLVR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Liberty wrestlers finished eighth at Penn Manor over the weekend, with Max Milia taking runner-up at 107 pounds and Elijah Heimbach placing seventh at 121 while the team posted a 2-0 record. They will compete against Pocono Mountain East and West before hosting the Bethlehem Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 and 29.  Bethlehem Press
  • At a December 9 meet at Liberty, sophomore swimmer Adam Barlow broke two school records in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.52, beating his previous best and the pool record set by Malcolm Collins. His effort helped lead the team to a win over Stroudsburg.  Bethlehem Press
  • Liberty’s girls swim team won 11 of 12 races in a 92-71 win over Stroudsburg on Dec. 9 at Liberty. Coach Foust said the team showed strong effort (with key wins by McClarin and Onia) in every event.  Bethlehem Press
  • Bethlehem Catholic's Keanu Dillard was the lone medalist at the Ironman Tournament in Ohio last weekend when he finished fourth after a 3-2 tiebreaker loss. The Hawks will host Easton on Wednesday night and head to Delaware for the Beast of the East tournament this weekend.  Bethlehem Press
