COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bethlehem’s 23rd annual Peter Kearns Memorial Christmas Tree Toss raised record funds for Turning Point of Lehigh Valley (a nonprofit aiding domestic abuse survivors) as competitors set a record throw of 60 feet, 3 inches on Saturday morning.  WFMZ
  • Phantoms tossed a record number of teddy bears on Saturday night at the PPL Center in Allentown. The donated bears went to Valley Youth House to support children in need this holiday season.  WFMZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Trees of Historic Bethlehem, celebrating 20 years, is on display through Sunday, Jan. 11 at three historic sites in Bethlehem. The exhibit features 21 decorated trees (including the Bee Tree), self-guided tours with guide booklets, and an opportunity to vote for a favorite tree.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Hopelessly Devoted to You, a tribute to Olivia Newton-John, will perform at Wind Creek Event Center on March 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets went on sale on Dec. 19 at the box office at 77 Wind Creek Blvd. and online for $29.50 and $39.50.  Lehigh Valley News
  • After a widespread power outage on Friday that closed ArtsQuest, the Christkindlmarkt at the Visitor Center reopened on Saturday. Guests could use unscanned Friday tickets for entry on Saturday and Sunday.  WFMZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Lehigh Valley Zoo removed its African penguins from exhibit as state officials suspected wild birds had HPAI (bird flu). The zoo rearranged its exhibits by moving Egyptian geese to a new barn while black swans and barnyard chickens were relocated indoors for extra biosecurity.  WLVR
