  • Bethlehem will celebrate New Year's Eve by dropping a 400-pound yellow Peep chick tonight (a nod to quirky food drops seen across the country, including a bologna drop in Lebanon and a pickle drop in Dillsburg).  WFMZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Strong winds from a passing cold front caused thousands of power outages early Tuesday, with over 14,000 customers affected by PPL Electric and Met-Ed (8,000 and nearly 6,500, respectively). A wind advisory was in effect until 1 p.m.  Lehigh Valley News
  • A Wind Advisory was in effect until 4:00 p.m. yesterday in Northampton County and other areas where west winds gusted up to 50 mph, causing falling tree limbs and minor power outages. Motorists were urged to secure outdoor items & drive cautiously.  WFMZ

  • Bethlehem officials are closing off icy areas at Payrow Plaza to keep fireworks watchers safe today - posted caution signs and stationed personnel will guide pedestrians along safer paths ahead of the 5:45 p.m. display.  Lehigh Valley News
  • State officials announced a toll increase on the Pa Turnpike that will take effect this weekend, raising rates for drivers (affecting local travel).  WFMZ
