CULTURE NEWS

  • ArtsQuest officials announced that Oktoberfest will return to SteelStacks for its 15th year this October. The free festival will run from Friday, October 3 through Sunday, October 5 and will have a second weekend from Friday, October 10 through Sunday, October 12 — offering German food, music, and contests.  WFMZ
  • At Lehigh University, LUKA celebrates Filipino heritage by hosting events such as a Tinikling performance and Breakfast for Dinner to unite students from diverse backgrounds. The club also offers a mentorship program—pairing leaders with members to strengthen cultural bonds and community engagement.  The Brown and White
  • The Lehigh Valley will host a busy schedule of fall events starting today—including the Spooktacular Hot Air Balloon Festival at Slatington Airport and Grim’s Orchard’s Fall Festival beginning Sept. 6—and a drive-in Night Market in Orefield on Sept. 12, early Halloween attractions at Dorney Park, and Apple Days in Bethlehem to celebrate the season.  Lehigh Valley Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UGI Utilities will begin replacing the natural gas main in Bethlehem on September 8 with work scheduled Monday through Friday (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Officials say the underground project will finish by the end of September and may cause road closures, detours and brief interruptions in natural gas service on Second Street Ramp onto Brodhead Avenue and Brodhead Avenue between West Third Street and Broadway.  WFMZ
  • Route 22 will close overnight from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday to allow crews to remove the old Farmersville Road bridge in Bethlehem Township—traffic will be detoured onto Route 191 and Route 33 as work continues on a $4.6 million replacement project that began last fall and will finish in October.  Lehigh Valley Live

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recent gift to St. Luke’s hospice deepens the legacy of attorney Justin K. McCarthy, whose long support and over $2 million donation helped launch vital care programs. His contributions have funded volunteer training and patient support initiatives—programs that offer comfort and care during end-of-life stages.  Bethlehem Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lehigh’s women’s wrestling team has been elevated to Division I varsity status after three years as a club sport, and its official season begins in the 2025 to 2026 academic year. Head coach Brazel Marquez said the program now has more support—bringing improved resources and greater visibility for the sport.  The Brown and White
  • Lehigh students have formed Clutch’s Kettle— a club that debuted with a strong student section at the football game against Richmond last Saturday— to boost school spirit at games. The club will return to Goodman Stadium on Sept. 6 to support the Mountain Hawks and create a lasting student presence.  The Brown and White
